The Prophecy Of Daniel And The Understanding Of The Meaning Of The World Events (Part 8)
It is in the historical context of the partition into four, of the former territories conquered by Alexander, the Great, that begins the prophetic narrative of the conflict, between the king of the north and the king of the south, in Daniel chapters 11 to 12:1. The peculiarity of this war, with worldwide repercussions, is that it is exclusively centered on the land of Decoration, Israel, which is currently the epicenter of dramatic events that will lead to the great tribulation (Daniel 11:41- 45 and 12:1).
The time is between the decline of Medo-Persian world power and the military supremacy of Greek power (compare Daniel 8:7,20,21). The “mighty king”, in Daniel 11:3, is Alexander, the Great (336 BCE (compare Daniel 8:8,20)). His shattered kingdom, divided towards the four winds, alludes to his untimely death (323 BCE) and the division of the conquered territories, into four parts, shared between four of his former generals (compare with Daniel 8:8b,22). As the narrative of this conflict center on the land of Decoration, the north represents Syria and the south Egypt. Of the four generals, two of them seize the whole Greek Empire, which will begin the struggle between these two kings and their respective dynasty:
- The king of the North, the Syrian King Seleucus I Nicator and his dynasty.
- the king of the South, the Egyptian King Ptolemy Lagus and his dynasty.
This biblical prophecy is examined under the topic: “THE TWO KINGS”.
